Designing a Safer, More Connected Corridor
North Ford Street is a critical north-south corridor for the City and should provide accessible, connected and safe travel for all travel modes while serving the current needs and future goals of nearby neighborhoods and Golden residents.
The City of Golden has launched the North Ford Complete Street Design project, which aims to increase accessibility, connectivity and safety along the North Ford Street corridor between SH93 and 10th Street. The project design will:
Improve the sidewalk immediately adjacent to the roadway
Expand connectivity between Ford Street, Cressman Gulch Trail and Tucker Gulch Trail to create a comfortable and connected corridor for cyclists
Implement traffic calming to address persistent speeding
Craft a strategic parking design to serve the needs of residents while improving pedestrian visibility
Project Design Timeline
The first phase of the design project will begin by gathering public input on current transportation conditions and the goals and aspirations of the community for an improved corridor. Design alternatives will be shared with the community at a Fall 2025 open house with an accompanying survey, and opportunities for small group meetings that are neighborhood focused.
Phase 2 of the project, in Summer 2026, will share a refined corridor design based on community feedback and include an additional design open house.
Construction of the project is dependent on identifying local, state and/or federal funding.
Community Engagement Opportunities
The project will build on past traffic calming, speed limit and shared use path projects that have been completed along the corridor.
Initial Community Survey (July/August 2025)
Preliminary Design Open House (September/October 2025)
Preliminary Design Alternatives Community Survey (September/October 2025)
Neighborhood Small Group Meetings (September - November 2025)
Final Design Open House (July/August 2026)
