DeLong Park Planning

DeLong Park sign on red rock

In December 2017 the City purchased the Delong property at 395 23rd Street for the purpose of creating a neighborhood park, which will fill a void in the parks master planning process for the community. The new neighborhood park will be located on 23rd Street, between East Street and Table Heights Drive. The planning process for the new park is just beginning. The area is a blank slate with no plans currently in place; the Parks, Recreation and Museums Advisory Board (PRMAB) is seeking public input on how the area should be developed.

The intent of the public process is to generate ideas from the community. For questions on the public process, please contact Stacy Turner, 303-384-8191 or sturner@cityofgolden.net.

Q&A

  • Your use of the term "single track" is bit confusing. I definitely want a pedestrian trail around the park and definitely don't want anything intended to attract bikes. The property is way too small to try to be a bike park--even a little one. I emphatically don't want a portapotty in the park

Thank you for your comments. There are two different single track amenities proposed. The walking track up the hill and a bike trail around the perimeter. We have documented your disinterest in bike trails and a porta potty.

  • Where is the comment tab that you said I could use to elaborate beyond the questions of the poll?

    susanriebe asked 4 months ago

The comments tab is located on the project main page. Please feel free to contact me direct if you still have trouble. Thank you. sturner@cityofgolden.net or 303-384-8191.

  • How can I see the options on the poll once I’ve taken the poll? I didn’t see the simple benches on the list, just the swinging benches. I also didn’t see simple picnic tables on the list, just the covered picnic areas with multiple tables. I mentioned this in a previous question, and you said that benches and tables were on the poll and I should vote for them. But I can’t access list of items on the poll since ive already taken the poll.

The proposed park amenity ideas has been added to the document library on the project main page.  Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

  • Where on the concept drawings is the "off street parking" going to be? Any concerns of high school students parking at the park during school hours since they don't have permits?

    dsptchmom asked 4 months ago

Off-street parking will not change. It will be in the areas that are currently available. We suspect if people drive to the park, they will park their vehicles along 23rd Street.  Nothing will change for high school students.

  • I would have liked to vote on the things I absolutely don’t want, like a portapotty right in front of my neighbors picture window, or a big picnic structure, or anything that would attract transients or illicit activities (a history of these occurring in the draw uphill from the park). It’s just as important to know what people don’t want as to know what they do want. I also would have liked to have had the things I wanted on the list of amenities to vote for, such as scattered benches or a few picnic tables distributed around the edges. Why didn’t you allow us to vote on these things?

We are interested in your feedback and created a comments tab available for you to elaborate on your ideas further than what the poll allows.  In the poll, we included all items from the idea board except a few that were simply not feasible. Those were addressed in the public meeting.  Benches and tables were included in the poll, please feel free to vote on those and elaborate where you envision them on the comments tab.  Thank you.
