Project Completion
The Heritage Dells Park Playground is now complete—a vibrant, inclusive community asset in Golden, Colorado. What began as a well-coordinated, community-informed process culminated in a joyful grand opening and block party on May 22, 2025, featuring games, snacks, and family‑friendly fun.
Replacing a nearly 30‑year‑old facility, the new playground delivers a bright and accessible play space for a wide range of ages and abilities. The final design features swings, a merry‑go‑round, a multi‑level playhouse, four slides, climbing structures, sensory play panels, shaded decks, sand play, and safe pour‑in‑place surfacing.
Construction stayed on schedule, with work beginning in early April 2025 and wrapping up by mid‑May, allowing the city and community to come together just in time to celebrate. The project thoughtfully incorporated community survey input into the approved design, ensuring the playground reflects neighborhood needs and preferences.
Now that the project page is ready to be archived, this playground stands as a testament to collaborative planning—offering safe, engaging outdoor play for children and families, while enhancing connectivity along the Kinney Run Trail in Golden.
May 13, 2025 Project Update
It's almost time, and we couldn't be more excited!
Construction is progressing on schedule, and we have a fun events planned to celebrate the new playground. Come join city staff, City Council members, and your community in fun and games for a Heritage Dells playground grand opening and a block party! Bring your own chair. The events will be held rain or shine (but hopefully we get shine!).
Thursday, May 22, 2025 Grand Opening & Block Party
Grand Opening Event: 2-4 p.m. at Heritage Dells Park
- Enjoy games, activities, and snacks and check out the new playground.
Block Party 4-6 p.m. at West 4th and Chelan Street
- Enjoy games and activities, plus a taco bar and ice cream, all free while supplies last.
April 2, 2025 Project Update
Exciting News!
Playground construction is scheduled to begin April 7 and should be completed mid-May (dependent on unexpected weather or construction delays).
The playground will be closed through the duration of the project. We ask our community to please respect trail closures and use the provided detour to avoid the construction zone.
We can't wait to upgrade your play!

Project Background
The City of Golden is updating the playground at Heritage Dells Park with all new equipment. The current playground was installed in 1997 and has surpassed its life expectancy of 20 years. A new playground will provide improved recreational, developmental, and accessible opportunities, along with industry standard safety surfacing, for children across a wide range of ages and abilities.

We are excited to share final design images of the new Heritage Dells playground structure, color scheme, and materials!
