I am honored to be Golden’s mayor and to have the opportunity to represent our wonderful community. We have a beautiful city filled with amenities for all interests, strong neighborhoods, thriving businesses, a world-class university, and excellent municipal services.

My focus for our city is on continuous improvement in the ways that City Council operates, the ways that the city connects with residents and businesses, and the ways in which we collaborate to bring new ideas and creative solutions to fruition.

Twelve years ago, my husband and I left Nebraska and headed west on an adventure. During that three-month Jeeping, mountain biking, climbing and hiking trip, we discovered Golden and its engaged neighbors — then decided to make it our home. It felt just like the small towns I grew up in, but had much better views.

Golden is the perfect place to pursue our love for the outdoors and my passion for service. Since relocating, I worked for several nonprofits, including the Children’s Hospital, Professional Ski Instructors of America and Victim Outreach Information. Currently, I make biking better for everyone as Director of Data and Technology at PeopleForBikes. I learned about Golden by serving as an advocate for victims of crime and participating in several working groups including the Recreation and Museums Advisory Board, Citizen’s Budget Advisory Committee, Golden Investment Task Force, mobility Hub Task Force and Jeffco Trails Council, Mobility Hub Task Force and Golden United.

Through knocking on every door in South Golden for the campaign, I know that Golden residents value our small town charm, open spaces, and built environment and we have challenges with affordability and transportation. I’m looking forward to engaging with neighbors to find solutions that help us solve these important challenges while building a healthy, safe and sustainable community where every Golden resident can thrive.

Always feel free to reach out with questions, ideas or just to meet up: jtrout@cityofgolden.net; 720-880-5084 (text or call); @JJTrout4Golden.

It’s truly an honor to have been reelected to serve the residents of Golden on the City Council. My wife, Gina, and I have been privileged to live in Golden since 2004 with our two sons who attend Golden neighborhood schools. In my day job, I work for the federal government analyzing ways to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of various federal agencies and programs.

When all of us work together productively and collaboratively, we can solve the toughest problems facing our community. After graduating and passing the bar exam, Rob worked for two specialty firms that focused on mortgage lending and servicing. In 1997 Rob started his own practice, which focuses on real estate law. Rob has represented people and businesses throughout Colorado in real estate transactions and litigation. Rob has also done pro bono legal work for organizations that assist women in crisis and families in need.

Rob and his wife, Kristin, got married at Table Mountain Inn almost 20 years ago (Rob’s parents were married in front of the same fireplace before TMI was TMI). Rob and Kristin moved to Golden in 2003.

Serving on various City civic groups and boards prepared me to become a City Councilor for Ward 2. Preserving the true character of Golden continues to be my goal and the goal of the Council. Preserving our character is only made possible by our many, many volunteers who, working together, make Golden Golden. Thank you all for your contributions to our great City. We should all be proud and thankful.

By way of brief background, I graduated West Point as an officer in the Corps of Engineers. After Vietnam and teaching at the Army Engineer School, my career shifted to law with two law degrees and work in the aerospace industry for 30 years. My last position was Vice President and General Counsel for $3B company. This broad corporate experience reinforces the value of communication and teamwork.

My wife, Vivian, and I are happy to enjoy Golden with our two daughters, Lynn and Janelle, their spouses and six of our 13 grandchildren. Life is good in Golden.

A key value of my family is education, and I am proud and supportive of our local schools and the Colorado School of Mines.

Service on the Citizens Budget Advisory Committee and Planning Commission, and the Citizens Sustainability Advisory and Visitor Center Boards, has further prepared me to be thoughtful of the key needs of our city. I will work to keep Golden financially sound and people focused while providing accessible and transparent governance.
