2020 Project Wrap-up and Background
Thank you to all of you who participated in the survey process for the 2020 update of the South Golden Neighborhoods Plan. We had more than 160 individuals take one or more of the surveys! Survey results can be found in the document center to the right.
In an effort to keep this ball rolling we invite you to participate in the upcoming event below:
On December 1 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. the Planning Division from the City of Golden will host a virtual community meeting to discuss the South Golden Neighborhoods Plan – 2020 update. Staff will take additional feedback from attendees. This will be the perfect opportunity to get involved with the project if you missed our surveys, but fear not if you did participate in the surveys, there will be additional questions to refine our understanding of those initial results. Participants will be able to use interactive tools that will provide staff live feedback during the virtual meeting. We look forward to your participation!
As the Planning Commission commences an update to the South Golden Neighborhoods Plan, we are asking the neighbors in South Golden and also the greater Golden community to speak up about a few big projects that are gearing up along W. Colfax Avenue, as well as provide any other thoughts for improvements in this area of town.
The City of Golden Planning Division first published the current draft of the South Golden Neighborhood's Plan in 2012. That plan included an overview of the current development patterns, land uses, infrastructure, and future development considerations that would likely occur in the future. Since 2012, most of those developments, identified in the plan as "areas of change", have been fully built out (more info here). However, other changes have occurred in South Golden since 2012 that have triggered this update to the Neighborhoods' Plan. These changes are concentrated along West Colfax Avenue in the southern most areas of the neighborhood. Detailed information is contained within the links directly below that will help develop your understanding about these issues and why we must gather public input prior to their completion.
Over the course of the next couple of months, the City of Golden Planning Division will host three short surveys to collect information about the potential redevelopment of Heritage Square as well as the reconstruction of West Colfax Avenue. These surveys also include questions that consider the how properties along the Colfax corridor should develop in the future. The third and final survey will determine if there are issues related to the overall South Golden area that need to be addressed in the update.
The information we hope to gather from these surveys at this time is basic. We wish to know the general desires of the community and neighborhood related to these topics. Later on in 2020 there will be additional opportunities to provide public feedback. The information presented later on will be more refined and the surveys more detailed. Please be sure to sign up to received notifications for this projects as it develops over the next several months.
