Update 7/8/2021

The redesign of West Colfax Avenue (US 40) now has its own project page! If you are interested in being part of the planning process to reimagine this travel corridor, please join us at GuidingGolden.com/US40 and help kick off the new design process.

Update 1/5/2021:

Happy New Year Golden! Thank you for your continued interest in the South Golden Neighborhoods Plan. Staff will work in the first half of the year to analyze the results of our previous outreach efforts from the summer and fall of 2020.

Upon initial review of those results we understand loud and clear that residents of the South Neighborhoods favor connects to open space. If you find yourself falling into this category you may be interested in watching the Planning Commission Study Session from January 20. Representatives from Jefferson County Open Space were on hand to discuss projects they are exploring around the South Golden Neighborhoods. Watch the meeting at www.cityofgolden.net/Agendas. Scroll down to Planning Commission to find the recording.

Update 12/2/2020:

Thank you to all who participated in the virtual neighborhood meeting for the South Golden Neighborhoods plan. Over 40 individuals logged in and participated in the meeting. If you were unable to attend and wish to watch the meeting, a video recording can be found to the right of the page. We also promised to share the interactive survey results; those can be found below!

Update 11/3/2020:

Thank you to all of you who participated in the survey process for the 2020 update of the South Golden Neighborhoods Plan. We had more than 160 individuals take one or more of the surveys! Survey results can be found in the document center to the right.

In an effort to keep this ball rolling we invite you to participate in the upcoming event below:

On December 1st from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. the Planning Division from the City of Golden will host a virtual community meeting to discuss the South Golden Neighborhoods Plan – 2020 update. Staff will take additional feedback from attendees. This will be the perfect opportunity to get involved with the project if you missed our surveys, but fear not if you did participate in the surveys, there will be additional questions to refine our understanding of those initial results. Participants will be able to use interactive tools that will provide staff live feedback during the virtual meeting. We look forward to your participation!

As the Planning Commission commences an update to the South Golden Neighborhoods Plan, we are asking the neighbors in South Golden and also the greater Golden community to speak up about a few big projects that are gearing up along W. Colfax Avenue, as well as provide any other thoughts for improvements in this area of town.

The City of Golden Planning Division first published the current draft of the South Golden Neighborhood's Plan in 2012. That plan included an overview of the current development patterns, land uses, infrastructure, and future development considerations that would likely occur in the future. Since 2012, most of those developments, identified in the plan as "areas of change", have been fully built out (more info here). However, other changes have occurred in South Golden since 2012 that have triggered this update to the Neighborhoods' Plan. These changes are concentrated along West Colfax Avenue in the southern most areas of the neighborhood. Detailed information is contained within the links directly below that will help develop your understanding about these issues and why we must gather public input prior to their completion.

Over the course of the next couple of months, the City of Golden Planning Division will host three short surveys to collect information about the potential redevelopment of Heritage Square as well as the reconstruction of West Colfax Avenue. These surveys also include questions that consider the how properties along the Colfax corridor should develop in the future. The third and final survey will determine if there are issues related to the overall South Golden area that need to be addressed in the update.

The information we hope to gather from these surveys at this time is basic. We wish to know the general desires of the community and neighborhood related to these topics. Later on in 2020 there will be additional opportunities to provide public feedback. The information presented later on will be more refined and the surveys more detailed. Please be sure to sign up to received notifications for this projects as it develops over the next several months.

The City of Golden has recently acquired funding to redevelop West Colfax Avenue from Violet Street to I-70 (near Gateway Village). In the future this portion of West Colfax Avnue shall function as a complete street, or one that accommodates all forms of mobility: cars, bikes, pedestrians, and buses. Please take a moment to answer this brief survey so we can create a transportation experience that best suits the neighborhood and greater Golden community. Potential considerations should also be extended to the land uses that surround the Colfax corridor.

Built in the 1950’s as an amusement park, the Heritage Square property has remained untouched since its recent closure. The majority of the former amusement park's attractions and buildings have been removed, and the current owners of the property are preparing to sell the property to Jefferson County Open Space. Although Jefferson County Open Space intends to preserve some portions of the property as open lands, a large portion of the property may be sold for development. Before this occurs, Jefferson County Open Space wants to work with the community of Golden to determine the best use for this property in the future. In other words, what land uses are most important? Jefferson County Open Space will use this feedback when and if the property develops. Please take a moment to fill out the short survey contained below.

The South Golden Neighborhoods Plan was most recently published in 2012. At the time of its release, the South Golden Neighborhoods area was generally seen as stable from a development perspective. Most of the properties were built out and seen as thriving. In total, the plan identified three major areas of change that at the time of this writing are mostly built out themselves. The focus of the 2020 update to the South Golden Neighborhoods Plan will be the West Colfax corridor and it's adjacent properties, but we will definitely analyze the remaining neighborhood to determine if there are improvements that are needed elsewhere. Help us figure out what we're missing by filling out the survey below.
