Creating and Updating Two Master Plans
The City of Golden is moving forward with two important initiatives: the Parks & Recreation Master Plan (PRMP) and Open Space Master Plan (OSMP) Phase Two. These plans will guide the future care, development, and preservation of Golden’s parks, recreation facilities, and open spaces—ensuring they meet community needs, protect natural resources, and expand access for all.
- July 23, 2025: City Council formally adopted the OSMP Phase Two draft.
- Nov. 25, 2025: City Council is scheduled to consider adoption of the PRMP.

We are pleased to share the Draft Open Space System Map for the City of Golden’s Open Space Plan, Phase Two. This map provides a clear overview of the open space properties within Golden, highlighting both City of Golden Open Space and key surrounding areas.
The map distinguishes the following:
- City of Golden Open Space
- Colorado School of Mines Property
- City of Lakewood
- Jefferson County Open Space
- State of Colorado Lands
- City Park
We invite the public to explore the map, review the open spaces, and share any feedback or comments you may have as we move forward with this planning phase.

These results will guide the development of both the Parks and Recreation Master Plan and the Open Space Master Plan, Phase Two.
A presentation of the report was shared with the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board on January 16.
The survey is one of several important elements shaping the direction of these plans. The direction will also incorporate feedback from engagement efforts, analysis, and institutional knowledge.

Open Space Working Group Meetings
Share Open Space Working Group Meetings on Facebook Share Open Space Working Group Meetings on Twitter Share Open Space Working Group Meetings on Linkedin Email Open Space Working Group Meetings linkThe working group's purpose is to provide input on the development and implementation of the Open Space Master Plan Phase Two, verify consensus on the mission, vision, and relevant definitions from Phase 1, and offer insights on preserving and enhancing natural areas. Additionally, the group will assist in classifying open space parcels, which includes criteria, current conditions, standards of preservation, uses, maintenance, and future acquisition.
The group will meet a total of six times between October 2024 and April 2025. Meetings take place on the second Monday of each month from 10:00 to 11:30 AM at the Golden Recreation Center. Meeting agendas, key topics, and updates will be published regularly to keep the community informed.

Responsibilities:
- Provide input on the Open Space Master Plan
- Offer insights on natural area preservation
- Share your perspective on open space classifications
- Help build consensus on the mission, vision, and definitions for Golden's open space areas
What we're looking for:
- Community members committed to attending three 90-minute meetings between October and April
- Diverse perspectives representing many aspects of the Golden community
