Take a look at the first draft of the Historic Preservation Design Guidelines. See below for engagement opportunities to provide feedback in person or comments/feedback may be added below.
Implementation of Best Practices for Preservation of Golden's Historic Neighborhoods and Structures
The City of Golden is taking the next steps to implement recommendations from the Historic Preservation Policy Study with the launch of Past Forward. Building on extensive community input from the Study, which was approved in February 2025. The project will include three connected efforts:
Revised Regulations: A complete rewrite of Chapter 18.58 of the Municipal Code, the section that governs historic preservation processes and procedures. Update: Council Adopted the revised Chapter 18.58 on March 10, 2026.
Architectural Guidance: The development of new architectural guidance for the City’s Historic Districts and structures, revising the current Historic District Residential Design Guidelines.
Establishment of Neighborhood Context: The introduction of neighborhood context statements for Golden’s designated historic districts. These statements will document the defining features, development patterns, and architectural styles of each area, offering an essential foundation for preservation planning and decision-making.
Together, these efforts will strengthen the City's ability to celebrate its unique past and foster a sense of place that reflects the values of the Golden community. Past Forward ensures that as Golden continues to thrive, its history remains a visible and valued part of its identity.
