Heart of Golden -- Still Beating

The Heart of Golden 2020 project is an exciting opportunity for the community to help us envision a Clear Creek Corridor for the future! COVID-19 slowed the project down, but it continues on and we hope you will engage with us and share your ideas and dreams for the Heart of Golden!

The Heart of Golden project started in October of 2019 with the purchase of more public land along the Clear Creek Corridor. You can learn more about the background of the project and the first phase of public engagement on our Heart of Golden 2020: How We Got Here page. If you missed giving feedback on the vision, uses, and first concepts in the beginning stages of the project, start at the Revisit Priorities survey. We are now in the Refining phase, which we had just begun by hosting one community meeting when the pandemic hit. The main goal during this phase of the project is to get feedback on the big picture elements of the corridor, primarily locations of main uses.

NEW Feedback Opportunities

We have two new surveys and three updated design concepts we need your feedback on. All of the tools are located at the bottom of this page, but here's a description of each.

  1. Design-Your-Own Corridor Survey - In this hands-on exercise, you can indicate where you prefer locations of buildings along the Clear Creek Corridor and submit your ideal version of the corridor as feedback. You will also be able write in details of what you’d like to see or not see on the corridor.
  2. Design Concepts One, Two and Three - In this exercise, we ask you to review three different updated design concepts and give us your feedback and comments on each.

Moving Forward with Heart of Golden 2020

The pandemic has limited gatherings and occupied much of the time and energy of staff, Council, and the community. As a result, City Council decided that instead of moving forward to discuss funding and selecting a plan this year, staff should refocus our efforts into a refining and visioning project that is adapted to the new normal by allowing extended periods of community input and active listening. We want to be sure you are involved in every step of this process – past, present and future.

After the Refining phase is complete, we will then focus on finding funding for the project. City Council anticipates the source to be a tax increase that would go to residents of Golden for approval in 2021 or after. If the community votes to approve funding, the next step would be design where we will once again ask our community for your ideas.

The community has given us great ideas for the Clear Creek Corridor that have brought us to this point, so let’s keep going! We aim to stay flexible and adapt to the world around us while providing you with plenty of opportunities to provide feedback on this project, even while in-person meetings are impossible. We commit to checking in regularly and adjusting how we collect feedback as the situation around us changes. But most importantly, we want to maintain excitement and gather input for this unique legacy project!

  • Take this survey if you didn't participate in the earlier stages or have input that fits into the vision, uses, and first concepts. This survey is based on surveys we had available in December 2019-April 2020 in which we gathered inout on the vision for the corridor, what uses the community would like to see, and the first three concepts we presented to the community.  Afterwards go to the next survey title Design-your-own-Corridor.

  • Community input has indicated a preference for higher density development in the East Zone. This “civic campus” would include new civic buildings, public plazas, a parking garage, and an amphitheater.

Please indicate what you think of each concept, and whether you think housing and retail spaces should be included in the project.
