The idea for a path running along the banks of Clear Creek was only introduced in 1971.
According to an article in the May 1971 issue of the Golden Transcript, the original idea for what we now know as Clear Creek Trail was a bike path paved in asphalt that maintenance vehicles could also use. In order to build the paths, the City had to reach agreements with private owners along the banks and the Colorado School of Mines. A great example of community collaboration resulting in something now beloved almost fifty years later, and impossible to imagine Golden without!
