Bringing Art and Imagination to Golden’s New Civic Building
Now soliciting feedback!
One percent of the construction budget for Golden’s new Police and Municipal Building has been dedicated to creating public art inside and outside the facility.
To lead the process, the City hired public art consultant Kendall Peterson of ThereSquared LLC to manage the artist selection and coordination.
In June 2025, the City issued a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) to artists from Colorado and nearby states. A jury of 14 members—including representatives from the Arts and Culture Commission, community members, City staff, and project architects—reviewed 50 submissions. Six artists were invited to develop concepts for signature artworks for the building’s lobby and outdoor spaces.
In October 2025, the jury selected two artists for final consideration.
Community Engagement & Feedback Opportunities
The City of Golden invites residents and community members to share their feedback on the two proposed public art pieces for the new Police and Municipal Building.
Community input will be shared with the Arts and Culture Commission in December 2025 before a final decision is made.
Public feedback is open from November 13–27, 2025.
Proposed artworks:
Quilted Ecology by Paula Castillo – A sculptural landscape connecting Golden’s Clear Creek restoration and community resilience, combining metal, glass, and living materials.
Cloud Garden by Joshua Weiner – A suspended “garden on the ceiling” made of layered metal leaves that evoke the movement of clouds, trees, and water flowing through Golden.
Share your thoughts on the proposed artworks and how each reflects Golden’s identity, values, and sense of place.
