Project Overview

The City of Golden Planning Department, in collaboration with the Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG), is launching a study to evaluate the feasibility of a docked, solar-charging bike share program in the City of Golden.

A bike share program makes bicycles available for short-term use within the community, allowing people to pick up and return bikes at designated docking stations. For this study, “bike share” refers specifically to a docked system using electric-assist bicycles (e-bikes).

The study will explore how a docked bike share system could enhance everyday travel in Golden by expanding mobility options, reducing reliance on cars, and improving access to key destinations. It will also identify the operational, infrastructure, and management considerations needed to successfully implement and manage a docked, solar-charging e-bike share program. The study is expected to be finalized in December 2026.

This study is funded through DRCOG’s Innovative Mobility Set-Aside program.

Community Engagement Opportunities

We want to hear from you! Community input will play a key role in shaping the study findings and recommendations. There will be multiple opportunities to learn about the project and share feedback, both online and in person.

    Welcome to the Golden Bike Share Feasibility Study Survey!

    Bike share programs offer communities convenient, affordable, and healthy transportation options while reducing traffic, improving air quality, and supporting active travel. 

    The City of Golden and the Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG) are partnering to conduct a docked bike share program feasibility study in Golden.  

    This study will explore whether or not a bike share program could support Golden’s sustainability and active transportation goals. It will also evaluate what program features best align with Golden’s unique size, topography, and travel patterns, while identifying opportunities, challenges, and next steps for potential implementation.

  • Estudio de viabilidad de bicicletas compartidas en Golden - Encusta sobre el proyecto

    ¡Bienvenido a la encuesta sobre el estudio de viabilidad de bicicletas compartidas en Golden! 

    Los programas de bicicletas compartidas ofrecen a las comunidades opciones de transporte agradables, costeables y saludables que al mismo tiempo ayudan a reducir el tráfico, mejoran la calidad del aire y fomentan el transporte activo. 

    La ciudad de Golden y el Consejo Regional de Gobiernos de Denver (DRCOG por sus siglas en inglés) están colaborando para llevar a cabo un estudio con el fin de determinar la viabilidad de un programa de bicicletas compartidas con estaciones fijas en Golden.  

    Este estudio analizará si un programa de bicicletas compartidas podría ayudar a alcanzar los objetivos de sostenibilidad y transporte activo de Golden. También evaluará qué características del programa están más alineadas con el tamaño, la topografía y los patrones de los trayectos únicos de Golden y, al mismo tiempo, identificará las oportunidades, los retos y los próximos pasos relacionados con su implementación.
